About The Event

Rough Sets were introduced by Zdzisław Pawlak in the early '80s and developed further as a method of knowledge representation and processing based on uncertain data and incomplete information. Nowadays, Rough Set theory is widely recognized to have great importance in several fields, including artificial intelligence, mathematics, knowledge representation and machine learning, as evidenced by the increasing number of works concerned with its applications and theoretical foundations.

The 2024 International Joint Conference on Rough Sets (IJCRS 2024) will take place in Halifax (Canada) from May 17 to May 20, 2024, and will be hosted by the MSc in Computing and Data Analytics (MCDA) program at Saint Mary's University, Halifax. IJCRS is the principal international conference sponsored by the International Rough Set Society (IRSS).

The IJCRS conference aims to be the main location for disseminating novel foundational results and practical applications, enabling the discussion of problems and exchange of ideas, as well as bringing together academic and industrial perspectives, centred around rough sets and related disciplines (such as granular computing, three-way decisions and fuzzy sets).

Our goal is to invite you to IJCRS 2024 and enjoy the beautiful maritime city of Halifax in May!

Best regards,
Pawan Lingras, Dominik Ślęzak, JingTao Yao

    Best Student Paper Awards

Sponsored by Springer, we present two Best Student Paper Awards to recognize top-quality full-length student papers accepted by IJCRS2024. Every full-length accepted paper that has a student as the first author and is presented by the first author either in-person or remotely online is eligible for the awards. The decision has been carefully made based on the quality of both the paper and the presentation. With a competition among 29 eligible papers, the two awards are presented to (equally ranked):

  • Qiaoyi Li, from the University of Regina in Canada under supervision of Dr. Yiyu Yao, for the paper entitled “Granular approximations of partially-known concepts”
  • Hajime Okawa, from the Muroran Institute of Technology in Japan under supervision of Dr. Yasuo Kudo, for the paper entitled “A vector is a granule: a novel extension of the variable precision rough set model”
  • Congratulations to both the awardees and their supervisors!

    Submissions

    The submission link is: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ijcrs2024

We accept two types of submissions:

  • Extended abstracts will be published in the online pdf book of abstracts.
  • Full-length papers (12-15 pages) will be published in the LNCS/LNAI Springer post-proceedings.

  • Both types will be treated equally when designing the conference program of oral presentations.

    Further details on extended abstracts:

Extended abstracts should include 1-4 pages and may describe work-in-progress as well as research that has been published else-where during the past year. Extended abstracts will not be included in the post-proceedings. They will be published as a digital book of abstracts on the conference website. Extended abstracts must be presented at the conference to be included in the book. Extended abstracts should be prepared following the same format as full-length papers, using either the Latex or the Word templates from Springer, which can be found on the Springer authors’ page. LaTex templates are available in Overleaf .

The author(s) should select “Extended Abstracts” at EasyChair using the above link. On the submission page, the author(s) will be asked to select a specific track where they want to present their extended abstract. The available tracks include the main track, special sessions, and workshops.

Additional details will be updated once available.

    Further details on full-length papers:

Full-length papers (12-15 pages) will be published in the LNCS/LNAI Springer post-proceedings. Papers with more than 15 pages can be accepted. Papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by at least three independent and anonymous reviewers. All accepted papers must be presented at the conference, and will be published in the conference post-proceedings, both in print and digitally. Accepted papers will be shared for exclusive use of the conference participants during the conference.

Full-length papers are to be submitted at EasyChair using the above link. The author(s) must identify one track for their submissions. The available tracks include “Main Track (Full-Length Papers)”, workshop tracks, and special session tracks.

All submissions must follow Springer’s Instructions for Proceedings Authors and use either the Latex or the Word templates, which can be found on the Springer authors’ page. LaTex templates are available in Overleaf. All submitted works should follow Springer’s Code of Conduct .

For authors who are interested in publishing open-access papers, please refer to Springer’s webpage for prices and additional information.

    Special Issues on Rough Sets:

Authors of full-length papers and extended abstracts are encouraged to submit extended versions of their works to the following special issues on rough sets:

  • Rough Sets and Insightful Reasoning, Information Sciences.
(Submission deadline: June 30, 2024 or any later date posted at the special issue link)

  • Four Decades of Rough Set Theory: Achievements and Future, Applied Soft Computing.
(Submission deadline: June 30, 2024 or any later date posted at the special issue link)

  • IJCRS 2024 is a perfect place to practice the material and gather feedback for everyone who intends to submit an article to one of these special issues. Their guest editors will invite the IJCRS 2024 PC members to review submissions associated with papers and abstracts presented at the conference. This way, the authors of such extensions will receive both faster and more knowledgeable reviews.
